En un impactante y trágico incidente ocurrido la madrugada del lunes, un hombre armado abrió fuego frente al Grand Sierra Resort and Casino en Reno, Nevada, dejando tres personas muertas y varias heridas. La espeluznante ráfaga de disparos pudo ser escuchada por los huéspedes desde sus habitaciones, mientras la policía acudía al lugar. El Departamento de Policía de Sparks lidera la investigación, pero el motivo del pistolero sigue sin estar claro y, hasta el momento, no se conoce ninguna conexión entre el tirador y las víctimas. Según el jefe de policía, Chris Crawforth, seis personas recibieron disparos en total, tres de ellas fallecidas. Otras dos se encuentran en estado crítico, mientras que una víctima fue dada de alta del hospital el lunes por la tarde. El sospechoso, que permanece bajo custodia policial pero no ha sido identificado públicamente, fue visto paseando por el estacionamiento del resort durante unos 45 minutos antes del ataque. En un momento dado, entró en la zona de valet parking del casino, donde sacó una pistola. Inicialmente, el arma falló, pero el tirador logró hacerla funcionar y luego abrió fuego contra un grupo de víctimas. Una persona murió en el área de valet parking y otras cuatro resultaron heridas.
